Punters Lounge Verdict

William Hill Casino has long been a big name on the casino market and it’s easy to see why. The design of the site is easy to navigate, the portfolio of games available to play is wide, and customer convenience is at the forefront of their product. If you are looking for a trusted name that delivers the latest and best promotional offers and casino games then you need to look no more.

Slot Games

Jackpot slots

There’s a great selection of jackpot games on this site. There’s even a Jackpot button on the menu bar, but when tested, most of this was hidden by the Search box – which is a nice feature to have when you want to find a particular slot, but it would be better if it was smaller and didn’t cover up the Jackpot button.

In fact, it’s potentially not required because on the main Slots page, all slots with Jackpots have a banner across the top of their icon with a live count of the current Jackpot total – a nice feature. There are some great games in this category, such as the 4-tier Age of the Gods jackpot. Some of the favourites, such as Mega Moolah, don’t feature on the site but by and large there’s a good selection of jackpot slots, including Frankie Dettori’s Magic 7 Jackpot.

Another great feature, is that every slot’s icon has an Information symbol that opens a box with a useful rundown of the slot. For example, it tells you the maximum payout, the number of lines and reels and what the wild is. But what’s really excellent is that it gives you the Return to Player (RTP) percentage instead of hiding these away in a long list in some obscure bit of the site, as most casinos do. The same Info box allows you to add the slot to your Favourites list.

The site features a good selection of Age of the Gods slots, together with movie and TV tie-ins such as Dirty Dancing, Rocky, American Dad, Monty Python, Life of Brian, Superman, Batman, Top Gun, Flintstones, Britain’s Got Talent. There are also slots featuring classic stars such as John Wayne and Marilyn Monroe. You won’t find titles like Lara Croft, but there’s still a good range.

Casino Games – Roulette, Craps and Sic Bo

There’s a good selection of table games, including European and American Roulette, with great graphics and sound. Again, the “Information” symbol opens a popup with very useful notes. For example, in the Roulette games, it explains what kinds of bets you can make. Roulette variations include French Roulette, Premium and Pro, 3D roulette, 101, Frankie Dettori, Dragon Jackpot and Diamond Bet. There’s also multiplayer roulette and Sic Bo.

There’s a new Superman Roulette which features 1 of 4 jackpots. It has a good RTP of 97.3% and mixes roulette play with multipliers, called Superman bonus bets, that enable you to reach the Fortress of Solitude and get a possible win of 726 times your wager. This is linked to the DC Super Heroes Jackpot which allows you to win 1 of 4 jackpots when you spin.

There’s even a craps game which is very hard to find in most online casinos.

Table games – cards

The site has a separate section for card games with an excellent range of games. There are lots of different Blackjacks, including progressive versions played with six packs. One great Blackjack available at William Hill casino is All Bets Blackjack which has no less than six sidebets – Top 3, Perfect Pairs, Buster Blackjack, Progressive Blackjack, Lucky Lucky and 21+3. You can choose one of them or even play all six at the same time. You can also play three hands at the same time.

Players can also enjoy Pontoon, Casino Hold’em, and a new video game called Aces and Faces. This features fast play of up to 25 hands. It’s an update to the classic Jacks or Better game and it’s got an amazing 99.26 RTP. With a maximum payout of 800 times your wager for a Royal Flush, this is definitely worth a look. You can double up or double half on any win.

Other card games include the ever popular Caribbean Stud poker, and the guessing game, Hi Lo. This involves predicting whether the next card will be higher or lower than the current one – it’s another update of a classic casino game. Red Dog is another prediction game that you’ll find in the Cards section. There’s Baccarat here as well.

Live casino

The Live Dealer section is new and it features Blackjack, Baccarat, Roulette, Poker and Hi-Lo, as well as 3 card brag. The live roulette icons display the latest numbers to come up. This is really useful for players looking to exercise roulette strategies or identify number sequences.

Promotions

The Welcome promotion is a 100% buy-in bonus when you visit the Casino page, up to £300. Minimum deposit is £10. You have to opt in to take part in the promotion and the bonus expires 7 days after it is awarded. The wagering requirement is 40X which isn’t the most generous around but isn’t the worst either. However, what’s really good is that this is on the bonus only – which actually makes it more generous than some casinos offering 30X, depending on the amount you deposit.

Nearly all the slots count 100% towards the wagering requirement on the welcome bonus which is great. However, there are some exceptions such as “Football Rules”, “Wild Gambler” and “Wild Gambler 2: Arctic Adventure”. These games only contribute 25%, as do Pai Gow and Hold’em games. Many of the table games contribute up to 25% of your stake but be aware that some, such as Blackjack Switch and Video Poker, only contribute 5%. See the full T&Cs for details.

A definite point in their favour, is that William Hill go into enormous detail on exactly how your account works in terms of Buy-in and Bonus funds, using examples to explain how money is allocated to wagers. It’s very transparent – again, see the promotion T&Cs for details.

Pick and Mix Prize Draw

This runs weekly and you have to opt into each new draw. There are over 22,000 prizes, worth £250,000, with the top prizes worth £5,000. Every £10 wagered on the promotion in selected games is equivalent to one entry to the draw. There are eight promotion games: Age of the Gods ™ God of Storms, Age of the Gods™, Tiger Claw™, Halloween™ Fortune, Dragon Champions™, White King™, Pharaoh’s Treasure Deluxe and Raiders of the Hidden Realm™.

There’s also a featured game, and every £10 wagered on this is equivalent to two entries in the draw. The featured game changes with every new draw. Prizes are paid as cash with no wagering requirement, or as free spins. The free spins are worth 25p which is good, however you can only use them on Age of the Gods™ King of Olympus.

Daily Deposit £20, Play with £30

Another promotion that you need to opt in to, this one runs daily. There’s a wagering requirement of X35 and you only get 24 hours to spend your bonus and any winnings. This promotion may run for set periods only. You can always cancel the previous day’s bonus if you want to go for a different promotion.

William Hill doesn’t appear to have a VIP or loyalty promotion on the casino side. That doesn’t mean they don’t have one – just that, if they do, it’s by personal invitation. They don’t run points-based loyalty schemes, as some of the other online casinos do.

Mobile casino

Android users have access to the whole site via their internet browser, because William Hill has invested in a completely mobile-friendly offering for them. iPad and iPhone users, who have the iOS operating system, will need to download an app.

To access information about the mobile app and to find the link to download it, go into the Help section of the menu, then type “Mobile” into the Search box.

To get into the casino, tap on “Log in” and enter the username and password. After this, click on Login again. There’s also an Auto-Login option which allows the app to memorise your details and log you in automatically every time you open it. If you don’t want this, move the Auto-Login slider to “Off”. If your device supports it, you’ll get the choice of using Touch ID. There’s also a handy “Forget Me” feature which clears your details from the phone. Obviously, you’ll have to input them again to log in. There’s more information in the mobile section of the Help function on the casino site.

If your mobile phone is running the William Hill site slowly, you may need to clear the cache. The phone stores a lot of information about each site you visit and this can slow the phone down. Go into the device settings and find the “Clear Cache” option – the phone’s performance should improve but you may lose stored form and other values for other sites.

Software & Platform

William Hill was formerly partnered with Playtech who owned a 30% stake in the company. However, William Hill bought out Playtech in 2013. The casino features games fromGamesys, WGS Technology (Vegas Technology), Quickspin, Genesis Gaming, Inspired, William Hill, Games Warehouse, Bally, Novomatic, Cryptologic (WagerLogic), Skillzzgaming, Blueprint Gaming, Evolution Gaming, WMS (Williams Interactive), IGT (WagerWorks), Realistic Games, Thunderkick, Rabcat, Ash Gaming, Microgaming, Fuga Gaming and of course, NetEnt.

Security and Fairness

William Hill’s policies state that the company may transfer your personal data outside the EU. Many casinos do this, but there are exceptions who don’t. By and large, it’s better to have your data stay in Europe because the privacy laws are tougher.

William Hill uses the https:// protocol to protect personal and other data when it’s being sent between their site and your browser. They have a security certificate from Hydrantid, the global Certificate Authority, and use Transport Layer Security (TLS) version 1.2, which encrypts messages to a very high level.

William Hill Casino uses Gaming Laboratories International to check the fairness of their games. They check the amount wagered and the sums won over a period and calculate the RTP to ensure that it is at the level it should be.

User Experience

The user experience on the site is excellent and the online casino has clearly been carefully thought out to appeal to slots, table and card game players. The information popup for each game is an excellent idea and must have cost quite a lot to implement. The Add to Favourites option is brilliantly simple – it’s amazing that more sites don’t have this. There’s lots of user information too. If there’s one niggle, it’s that there’s no Demo version of the games.

Customer Service

When it comes to assistance, there’s a pretty comprehensive set of FAQs with screenshots to help you navigate the system. You can access these by going to the “Help” option on the menu at the foot of the page. A search box enables you to type in a query word such as “Mobile” and see specific help.

If you need to talk to someone at William Hill about an account or gaming enquiry, there’s a 24/7 help facility. There’s live chat, email, and a Twitter account. There are also both UK (0800 0856 296) and international (+800 3551 3551) Freephone numbers for getting help and calls are also free from UK mobiles, which is an excellent feature.

Problem Gambling

William Hill is signed up to a very wide range of organisations that can help customers who feel their gambling is becoming problematic. These include Gamcare Problem Gambling Support, Gamstop, Gamblers Anonymous, BeGambleAware, Gamcare, the Responsible Gambling Trust, and Gamblers Therapy. This list is more comprehensive than almost any other online casino, possibly in response to criticisms from the authorities about the casino’s social responsibility performance.

The Gamstop sign up is important, because all casino sites are joining this. Once they’re all in, this will ensure that a self-exclusion will take effect across all the sites the gambler is signed up to.

The site offers hourly, weekly or monthly deposit limits, with a 24 hour cooling off period if you decide to increase your deposit limit. You can use the “Account Controls” button on your mobile to do the same thing. There are also session timers, which can be set to limit the amount of time you spend gaming and there are other gambling controls, accessible via a link from the Responsible Gaming section.

Deposits and Payments

William Hill provides a vast array of ways to deposit money, including credit and debit cards, e-wallets, Paypal, bank transfers, cheques, prepaid cards, various kinds of vouchers and many methods most players won’t even have heard of. However, there seems to be a gap in this comprehensive provision, when it comes to paying by mobile – mobile payment providers such as Boku aren’t listed.

That said, the maximum deposits on some of the debit and credit cards, and on Entropay, are huge – you can deposit £99,000 if you happen to have that much knocking around your bank account.

Withdrawal times are 3-5 working days for debit and credit cards and Entropay, 1 day for most e-wallets and Paypal, and a mixture of times for the other methods.
