Ribblesdale Stakes Overview
The Ribblesdale Stakes is a Group 2 flat horse race that takes place every year at Royal Ascot. The race is open to 3-year-old fillies and is run across a distance of 1 mile, 3 furlongs, and 211 yards at Ascot Racecourse.
The race itself was named as a tribute to the 4th Baron Ribblesdale, who was the official Master of the Buckhounds between 1892 and 1895. The first running of the race took place in 1919. It was initially open to 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds of both genders and was run over a distance of 1 mile. The distance was extended to 1 ½ miles after World War II.
Racing legend Frankie Dettori holds the best record in this race of any jockey with 8 wins in total. The first of those came in 1995 on Phantom Gold with the last of those victories coming on Frankly Darling in 2020. The leading trainers in this race, with 5 wins each, are Sir Henry Cecil, John Dunlop, Saeed bin Suroor, and John Gosden.
