Chelsea will host the 2nd leg of their Champions League Quarter Final match with Real Madrid in an 8pm BST kick-off on Tuesday night from Stamford Bridge. They currently trail 2-0 from the 1st leg, with goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio. It was the least Los Blancos deserved in a game they dominated. Here is my preview of the 2nd leg at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea Flatter to Deceive Under Frank
Just when you think Chelsea are playing some half-decent stuff and moving the ball around you then realise they have no outlet at all. Chelsea continue to have very little up top and, to make things worse, they are also giving chances galore away. I said in my accy for the weekend just gone, when I tipped up Brighton, that Chelsea give too many chances away and the Seagulls had lots off their own backs. It was always only going to be one winner in that outcome.
Chelsea have now lost 3 from 3 under Frank Lampard and I very much think that it will be 4 from 4 after this match. Whilst Real were enjoying 70% possession against Cadiz, Chelsea were giving Brighton 70% possession against them.
Real in 2nd Gear and Still Cruising
Real Madrid won that first-leg match in first or second gear if we’re honest with ourselves. They got that goal from Benzema after a frantic first 20mins and then took their foot off the pedal. It wasn’t until Asensio came off the bench, fresh and ready to get stuck in, that he smashed home the second. Chelsea was on the back foot for the majority of the match.
Whilst Chelsea was losing again, to Brighton, Real Madrid went and beat Cadiz 2-0. Goals from Nacho and Asensio. The difference is that Chelsea barely produced anything against Brighton whilst Real had 35 shots against Cadiz with 11 on target and 2 goals. 70% possession.
Head-to-Head and Team News
I won’t go over the head-to-head again as I did this for the 1st leg preview but suffice to say Chelsea’s record is good against Real. Perhaps these two legs combined will give it a different shine, though.
In terms of team news, Ben Chilwell will be suspended due to his red card in the 1st leg. Marc Cucurella is set to come in. Chelsea will really miss Khalidou Koulibaly in my opinion. He went off with a pulled hamstring in the 1st leg and will also miss out. Real Madrid were without the dangerous Vinicius Junior and also Toni Kroos at the weekend. Both had outstanding games in the 1st leg and Real will hope to have them back for this one. Luka Modric is also a potential doubt though.
Chelsea vs Real Madrid Betting Tips
I can’t see anything but another Real Madrid win in this match. I can’t imagine Chelsea scoring more than 1 goal tomorrow but it also wouldn’t surprise me if we saw a win to nil.
