The first race of the 2024 Royal meeting is upon us and we have a cracking renewal of the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes run over the straight mile to kick things off. Despite the eleventh hour defection of Inspiral this still has a classy look about it with French challengers Big Rock, Facteur Cheval and Dolayli in the field. The best of the trio is Big Rock but his standout piece of form came on very soft ground so with Ascot missing a lot of the rain around the country in the run up to the meeting I’m happy enough now to be against the French three who all seem to prefer cut in the ground. Roger Varian’s Charyn finished well ahead of Big Rock when chasing home the re-opposing Audience in the Lockinge at Newbury last time out and looks an improved horse this season having previously won in listed and Group 2 company at Doncaster and Sandown. He looks the pick under Silvestre De Sousa.
