We’ve had the Europa League Final and Europa Conference League Final. It’s now time for the biggest one of them all as Manchester City take on Inter Milan to see who will lift the UEFA Champions League trophy. The match will kick off on Saturday 10th June, at 8 pm BST from the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul. We managed to find you the winner of the Europa Conference League and I am here to give my best Champions League tips on this match.
Citizens Must Not Let Old Demons Return
We’ve been here before. At the latter stages of the Champions League and with Manchester City big favourites to go on. In the last 5 seasons, we’ve seen Manchester City reach Quarter-Final, Quarter-Final, Final, Semi-Final and now Final again. The teams they have lost to have been Tottenham, Lyon, Chelsea, and Real Madrid. Perhaps Real Madrid would have been favourites in that match or around about Evens but, on the whole, those teams should not be beating City and it shows the underlying mental weakness of City when it gets to the latter stages of this huge tournament in years gone by.
Pep Guardiola’s men have once again demolished all that get in their way in the early stages of this event and won their group without losing a match and conceding just 2 goals in those 6 matches. A group that included Borussia Dortmund, FC Copenhagen, and Sevilla. They then stepped on the gas and beat RB Leipzig 8-1 on aggregate and then Bayern Munich 4-1 over two legs. Add to that a thrashing of Real Madrid by a 5-1 aggregate score and we find ourselves here, in the final, taking on Inter Milan.
It looks destined to be a treble year for Manchester City. They’ve already won the Premier League and the FA Cup but that also brings its own pressure and I feel like that could feel like a burden during the match. If this was a normal final, without the idea of a treble, then I would feel much safer backing City. They’ve been to a big final in this competition before and put in a poor performance. Who’s to say that they won’t freeze once again?
Inter Happy to be Classed as the Underdogs
Inter Milan are being massively underrated in this final and indeed in this Champions League. This is a team that has won this event before (unlike City) and has won it three times. Twice in the 1960s and most recently when Jose Mourinho guided them to a 2010 trophy.
Simone Inzaghi’s side qualified from Group C, in 2nd place, along with Bayern Munich. It was a group that also included Barcelona. They’ve had a nicer draw than City since then, that is for sure. They faced Porto in the last 16 and came through 1-0 across two legs. Next, sticking to Portuguese teams, they faced Benfica. Coming through 5-3 on aggregate on that occasion. In the Semi-Final, they faced fellow Italian side and bitter rivals AC Milan and came through with ease, 3-0 over the two legs. It’s important to note that Inter knows all about AC Milan, of course.
All being said, this is the best chance that City has had to win a Champions League. Only Manchester City’s own demons and what’s between the ears could stop them from performing. Or perhaps Pep changing too much in search of his third Champions League title.
Head-to-Head Meetings
Whilst the two have not met in the Champions League, Manchester City do not have the best record against Italian teams in this event. In 16 matches against Italian teams in the Champions League, City have won just 6 of those. Whilst Inter Milan have played 38 matches against English opposition and have won 15. Although largely thanks to a very successful past era.

While I can see this being closer than people expect, I do think that City will finally take their chance. I can’t see there being too many goals in this one and I think that City will win it 1-0 or 2-0. I wanted to go with City to win and under 2.5 goals. However, the 6/4 available on City winning “to nil” appeals most.
