11-50 Doncaster Danger Alert (5/1)
Danger Alert was unfortunate to be just touched off on similar ground at Brighton last day and may be the type to do better now that he goes handicapping. He is making just his second start for George Boughey having found life a bit tough with Kevin Phillipart De Foy. He gave Mutaany a bit of a fright on that last occasion and the pair pulled some eight lengths clear of the rest of their field. Jack Mitchell now rides him for the third time in a row and the pair have to command respect amongst some out of form rivals.
12-26 – Aintree – Grey Dawning (15/8)
Grey Dawning is unbeaten in two bumpers and should improve now making the switch to timber. Two relatively easy wins at Wetherby should have left him very much spot on in what is his hurdling debut. Being a son of Flemensfirth, he should be more than capable of handling a bit of good in the going description. Dan and Harry Skelton look to have an exciting prospect on their hands here as he looks destined to go onto bigger and brighter things. The yard have a good recent record in this race having taken the prize twice in the last five years with Hear No Evil and Wilde About Oscar. This improving grey could well follow in their footsteps and looks and exciting prospect.
13:36 Aintree – Doctor Ken (3/1)
Olly Murphy bids to win this race for the second year in a row and now with Doctor Ken, who races in the same colours as last years’ winner Linelee King. Having run well at on flat tracks including at Ascot as well as here in the past, it would appear that this six-year-old son of Doctor Dino has a penchant for them. A trip of around two-and-a-half miles seems to suit this gelding well and he is perfectly at home on this ground and in this grade. He now tackles fences for the first time and if adapting to them he could well take some stopping.
13-43 Kelso – Breaking The Ice (11/4)
Breaking The Ice made a winning seasonal reappearance at Hexham on his beloved soft ground. That run should have left him pretty much spot on for this and he is undefeated at this track in three of his last four runs here. Having won over almost three miles in the past, there is likely to be plenty of use made of him today over this extended two-and-a-half-mile chase. Jonathan Bewley claims an invaluable three-pounds from his partners’ back and absolutely no surprise to see the pair go well again here this afternoon.
