The Premier League title race is the focus of attention on Tuesday evening in an 8pm BST kick-off when Arsenal take on Chelsea. Mikel Arteta’s team are no longer top of the league and finds themselves 1 point behind leaders Manchester City and with the Citizens also having a game in hand. I say it every week but this is a must-win match for the Gunners. If they lose this or even draw it then the title is really over with just 4 league matches remaining. My Arsenal vs Chelsea match preview is below.
Arteta Looking to Switch the Momentum
Arsenal are now winless for 4 matches with 3 draws and a recent damaging defeat to Manchester City. They are 1 point behind City, with Pep Guardiola’s men also having the better goal difference and a game in hand. The only thing that Arsenal can hope for now is that City takes their eye off the ball with their Champions League campaign. City dropped their performance against Fulham and only just got the 3 points with a narrow 2-1 win so Arsenal shouldn’t give up.
Arsenal are now 15th in the form table for the last 4 matches compared to being 4th in the last 8 games. They need to get back on the winning train and they now face a Chelsea team that has struggled massively recently and have just one win under Frank Lampard’s reign.
Blues Still Searching for Goals
I spoke about the lack of goals for Chelsea a long time ago. Ironically, pre-Lampard, Chelsea were scoring more than now and their defensive record was better and now they’re conceding more and scoring very few. Chelsea have scored just 1 goal in the last 4 matches and, of course, without a win in those 4 fixtures. Funnily enough, they have a better away record with 1 win and 4 goals scored in their last 4 away matches.
Over the last 8 matches, Chelsea are bottom for ‘total goals’ in matches with an average of just 2.13 goals scored. They’ve scored 30 goals this season from their 32 league matches. 13 of those have been away with 17 at home. Chelsea has 1.35 points per game at home this season and 1.07 points per game on their travels. Chelsea are currently 12th in the table and if they did start getting the goals and wins then there is every chance they could move up the table with their games in hand.
Head-to-Head
Arsenal holds the head-to-head advantage here with 5 wins from their last 6 head-to-head meetings. Most recently, Arsenal won 1-0 away from home. Incidentally, Chelsea won the last match at the Emirates by a 2-0 scoreline back in August 2021. A goal apiece from Romelu Lukaku and Reece James were the difference then with Thomas Tuchel as the head coach. This is a completely different Chelsea side both on and off the pitch to the club that competed in that game.
Arsenal vs Chelsea Betting Tips
I think Arsenal should get back to winning ways here. I’ve gone against Chelsea multiple weeks back-to-back and, although the performances are getting better, they continue to concede the first goal and the defeats keep coming. Arsenal need a win here and you’d have to think that now they’re behind in the title race, they should open up again and go on the front foot.
