The Premier League is over and we have our champions with Manchester City winning the title. The Europa League is also concluded with Sevilla making more history and we have a few more finals in the shape of the Champions League, Europa Conference League, and the FA Cup. I’ll now turn my attention to the US, and look to potential accumulators across the MLS Eastern and Western Conferences.
We’ve already had half of the season go by but at Punters Lounge we like to cover as much football as we can, so here we go with my free MLS betting tips preview for this weekend’s action that is happening stateside.
Seattle Sounders vs PORTLAND TIMBERS (9:30pm BST, Saturday 3rd June 2023)
I start with Portland Timbers to beat Seattle Sounders. Seattle, top of the Western Conference, taking on Portland, who are down in 10th position. Many will think I’m mad and they could be right but I can’t ignore the head-to-head meetings stats between the pair. In the last 5 head-to-heads, Seattle has not won one match. There has been one 0-0 and that came in a friendly.
Other than that friendly draw, it’s been four wins from four encounters for the Timbers. It was a 2-0 win in 2021 away from home, a 3-0 victory away from home in 2022, and two home wins of 2-1 and the most recent 4-1 result back in February. Sometimes a team just has your number and, despite the recent form of Portland, I think the 9/2 on offer represents value. I also expect BTTS and will be adding that to the BTTS accumulator MLS tips that I select.
FC CINCINNATI vs Chicago Fire (12:30am BST, Sunday 4th June 2023)
Next up, I have FC Cincinnati to beat Chicago Fire. Cincinnati sit top of the Eastern Conference with 11 wins from 15 matches played, with 3 draws and just 1 defeat. They have won 8 matches on the bounce at home and 9 out of their last 10 games played at home. Chicago Fire sits 4th bottom of the Eastern Conference, with just 3 wins this season and 17 points to their name. Chicago Fire have failed to win away from home in their last 5 matches. They concede a lot away from home and have conceded 2+ goals in 7 out of their last 10 away matches. Cincinnati all day for me in this one.
PHILADELPHIA UNION vs CF Montreal (12:30am BST, Sunday 4th June 2023)
My third and final pick in this MLS treble is Philadelphia Union beating CF Montreal at Subaru Park. Philadelphia are now 3rd in the Eastern Conference with 8 wins from 15 games and just 4 defeats. They face Montreal who are now 10th in the standings, with 8 defeats in 15 matches. In the last 5 matches for Phili, they’ve won 4 and drawn 1. They’ve conceded just 2 goals in those 5 matches and scored 9 including 7 in their last 3 matches.
Montreal have improved in their form by winning 2 of their last 3 matches and not losing in 3 but away from home the form reads 2-2 in their last outing, with 2-1 and 3-0 defeats prior to that. You would have to favour Philadelphia at home here.
