The focus is all on the Premier League summit on Wednesday night, at 7.45pm, we will see Arsenal host Manchester City at The Emirates Stadium in a game that could well go a long way to deciding the destination of this year’s Premier League title trophy. Let’s take a look at the statistics and odds in my Arsenal vs Man City betting preview right here.
It’s now billed as a huge match as Arsenal seem to be doing their normal routine of throwing away good positions in the league. If Arsenal were to lose this match, they’ll find themselves falling to 2nd place for the first time in a while, as Man City would leap-frog them thanks to a much better goal difference. Arsenal would still have one game in hand though. Arsenal’s recent last few matches have hurt them. You would have to think that a draw would be the minimum that Arteta will demand.
Home form key for league leaders
Arsenal currently sit 2nd in the home form table and only Man City are above them. It’s worth noting that Man City have 2 games in hand over Arsenal. Arsenal go into this fixture without tasting defeat at home this season with only Newcastle sharing that record with them. They’ve played 10 matches and won 8 of those with 2 draws. They have a solid goal difference of +15 and have let just 11 goals in.
However, both of those draws have been in 2023 and without Gabriel Jesus. They don’t look the threat that they’ve been before his injury. Since January, in the league, they’ve played 3 home matches and have seen results of 0-0 with Newcastle, 1-1 with Brentford, and a 3-2 win over Man United. Even that last match could have also quite easily been a draw, with a 90th-minute winning goal.
Citizens suffering away day woes
Man City though, despite being top of the home form league, sit just 6th in the away form table. They’ve won just half of their matches away (5 from 10) and they’ve lost to Tottenham, Man United and Newcastle, all quite recently away from home. Not to mention there was the unexpected cup exit to Southampton. They’re misfiring recently on their travels and they’re not taking full advantage of the last few results suffered by Arsenal. This is a chance for them to put that right and really put themselves back in the title race.
Head-to-head concern for Arteta’s men
The head-to-head is the real shock in this match-up. Arsenal have lost ten matches in a row to Man City and lost the last several away ties, too. They’ve already been knocked out of the FA Cup by them and they lost home and away last season including a 5-0 thrashing at the Etihad Stadium. If we look purely at home, for Arsenal, we’ll see results of 1-2, 0-1, 0-3, 0-2 and that’s just in the Premier League. I’ve left out the cup losses. They struggle to score against City and that will not be helped by the absence of Jesus, who remains sidelined. Man City themselves could be missing star striker Erling Haaland and also have no John Stones at the back.
Arsenal vs Man City betting tips
I think we’ll see a very determined Man City on Wednesday night. They’ve not taken their chances when Arsenal have failed to win but, right here, they have a chance to get into first place and I think that could spark them into something. Even if they end up without Haaland starting. I like City to win but with the “draw no bet” as a draw would be a good result for Arsenal with their H2H record, here. My other tip, at 7/2, is City coming through with both teams scoring. As I fancy a 2-1 City win tomorrow.
