It’s a battle between the new world order and the establishment of old in the Premier League this weekend when Newcastle face Manchester United in a 4:30pm BST kick-off from St James’ Park. Just 3 points separate the two teams with qualification for the Champions League the priority for both sides.
With what is sure to be a hotly contested game, here we discuss the form of both teams as well as our top football tips.

Toon Army back to winning ways
Newcastle currently sit in 5th position and find themselves just 2 points off the pace of the top four with two games in hand on 4th placed Tottenham. Eddie Howe’s men have hit back after a winless run of 5 league games by winning back-to-back matches in the league. It’s a spell of form that’s seen them rise up the table and return to the Champions League qualification conversation.
A win here would see Newcastle hit the 50-point mark in a single season for the first time since the 2011/12 campaign. Only Manchester City and Liverpool have managed to win away in the league against Newcastle since Howe’s appointment back in November 2021. However, Howe has only picked up 2 wins in 13 games against United as a manager. The BTTS market could offer some value with Nick Pope failing to keep a clean sheet in his last 7 matches for the club.
United firing blanks
Manchester United have shown signs that they are returning to their glory days under Erik Ten Hag. In February, the EFL Cup victory over Newcastle as fate would have it was a much-needed trophy in the Old Trafford cabinet. This evolution is not without its issues though. The Red Devils have conceded 27 away goals in the league with only Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest, and Leicester conceding more.
To be fair, 7 of those goals on the road came in the 7-0 loss away to rivals Liverpool at the start of March. That defeat has been their only loss across all competitions in the last 16 games. The team have failed to score in both of their last two league games and there is a risk they could fail to score in three consecutive league matches since February 2020.
Newcastle vs Man United betting tips
This will certainly be a game that has a big say in the race to reach the top table of European competition next season. Manchester United have dropped points in four of their last six visits to this stadium. However, Newcastle have only managed to win in 1 of the last 9 meetings between the two clubs.
I’m going to back both teams to score in this one and I wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up battling to an exciting draw. It’s also worth mentioning a potential cheeky side bet on Alexander Isak to score anytime at 2/1 with BetUK that looks decent value.
