Tonight, on the 5th of April, at 8pm BST at the London Stadium, West Ham will host Newcastle in the Premier League. The Magpies are coming off an impressive win against Manchester United whilst the Hammers are also in decent form at home, and could climb as high as 12th position with a win. I am taking a look at the fixture tonight and looking to give you the best premier league tips for tonight.
Home form keeping Hammers away from danger
West Ham have not lost at home in the top flight of English football in 2022. Their last home defeat was to Brentford back on New Year’s Eve. They’ve played 5, won 3 and drawn 2 in their 5 home matches this calendar year. They’ve drawn to in-form Aston Villa and Chelsea whilst they’ve also got a great point away from the team they’re playing tonight in Newcastle.
Despite the away form being rather poor, the home form continues to thrive. They’ve scored in every single one of those 5 home matches since the New Year. They also had a couple of European matches and won those with a great deal of encouragement.

Newcastle look to make their games in hand count
Newcastle are sitting 3rd in the table now and they still have two matches in hand over 4th placed Tottenham. They come into this match still in good form but perhaps not in the sparkling form that we saw a couple of months ago. They’ve managed 4 wins from their last 8 away matches but if you look at who they’ve beaten in those 4 matches then we see it’s Nottingham Forest, Leicester, Southampton and Fulham. They’ve also drawn with the likes of Bournemouth and Crystal Palace.
I just wonder if those numbers are a little skewed when we look at the opposition. Then I suppose you could also say that you can only beat the teams that are put in front of you.
Head-to-head and team news
West Ham are without Gianluca Scamacca once again. He looks to be out for the rest of April, or close to that, with a knee issue. There are rumours that Maxwel Cornet may finally get on the pitch for David Moyes’ side after having a nightmare start to his career with West Ham due to constant injuries. Newcastle have Joe Willock potentially missing after he came off against Manchester United. Miguel Almiron is still out for the Toon Army.
The last two matches between these two have ended 1-1 with the last one being just a few months ago. West Ham haven’t beaten Newcastle at home since 2019 but they’ve also not lost since 2020 and they actually beat Newcastle 4-2 away from home. That was the match prior to the two 1-1 draws.
West Ham vs Newcastle betting tips
This is a tough one to call because you could make arguments for both teams to win and you could make arguments for 0-0 or 3-3. I think my bet is going to be for BTTS. As I eluded to prior, West Ham has scored in their last 5 matches at home since the New Year and we’ve seen BTTS in the last 4 head-to-heads. I’m very tempted to back the draw but what puts me off is the thought in my head that I could easily see either team winning this 2-1 and so the safest bet seems to be the BTTS pick.
