Arsenal will travel to the London Stadium to face West Ham for an important London Derby this Sunday afternoon at 2pm BST in the Premier League. I’ve written this on a Friday evening, so we are yet to find out if Manchester City has beaten Leicester but in all probability, Arsenal will be just 3 points ahead and this is a must-win for them if they want to retain their strong advantage at the top of the league table. Here is my preview of West Ham vs Arsenal.
More “End Result” Than “Entertainment” from the Hammers
West Ham continues to put in poor performances. I watched them against Gent and honestly thought they were lucky to get a draw in the end. They had a pretty average performance against Fulham prior to that, also. However, I suppose the performance is not as important as the win when you’re in a relegation fight. The entertainment is out-the-window.
West Ham was thrashed in their last home match 5-1 against Newcastle but prior to that, they beat Southampton to nil and Forest 4-0 and also achieved score draws against both Chelsea and Aston Villa. They will have to be up for this one, unlike the KAA Gent match, if they want anything out of the game.

Gunners Need Every Point On Road to Premier Title
Arsenal come into this with great form but it could have been so much better if they held on to their 2-0 lead over Liverpool. They didn’t and now they have the pressure back on their shoulders. We’ve seen in the past with Arsenal that they haven’t dealt well with that pressure. It looked like they had moved out of sight when Man City slipped up but they’ve really been reined back in with those dropped points against Liverpool.
As mentioned though, Arsenal has lost just once in their last 8 matches away from home. They have scored 18 goals and conceded 7. They are top of the “total goals” in the last 8 matches and average 4.13 and they’re 2nd in total goals In the league to Man City with 72 goals.
Head-to-Head Meetings
Arsenal has a bit of a hex on West Ham. They’ve won the last 3 in a row and have won 6 out of the last 7 with a sole draw of 3-3 in March 2021. I remember that match well and believe it or not West Ham was 3-0 up in that match and scored 2 own goals (sigh). At home though the results are slightly better. If we go back as far as 2019 then the last 4 home matches have been a 1-0 win for West Ham, a 3-1 loss, a 3-3 draw and most recently a 2-1 defeat.
West Ham vs Arsenal Betting Tips
I think we’re going to see BTTS in this match. Yes, West Ham has poor form against Arsenal but they’ve managed to score in each of the last 4 home fixtures between the two and in 6 of the last 8 matches. I’ll also have a bet on Arsenal to win and BTTS. Whilst I think West Ham will do much better here and have every chance of getting something, I think the extra firepower that Arsenal possesses will win the day.
