The Turners Mersey Novices’ Hurdle is the second race of the final day of action at the Aintree Festival. It is one of the races that provides an exciting build-up to the feature race of the Grand National on the Saturday of the schedule.
It has featured some smart horses over the years. None more so than three-time Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Best Mate, who took the race in 2000 prior to going chasing the following season. It will normally feature a mix of those that ran well at the Cheltenham Festival and some fresher types who skipped the festival completely.
