15:45 Royal Ascot
A competitive renewal of the 1M Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes for older fillies and mares racing around the round mile rather than the straight mile for the first time. You’re going to need luck in running for sure and the tentative selection is last year’s winner Rogue Millenium. She was in the care of Tom Clover back then and has been sold for a rather ridiculous fee of 1.65 million guineas since and is now in the care of Joseph O’Brien.Dylan Browne McMonagle’s mount teed up for this with a fine third to the re-opposing Ocean Jewel at The Curragh last month and on 3lb better terms and with that run under her belt can turn the tables and run a big race. John & Thady Gosden’s Laurel is officially the best in the field but hasn’t been seen the 2023 Lockinge and it will be some training performance were she to win this even if she has won first time out for the past two seasons. Plenty of these would prefer softer ground so I’ll take the Irish five year old mare to record back to back victories in the race.

Duke of Cambridge Stakes Overview

The Duke of Cambridge Stakes is a Group 2 flat race that is open to horses aged 4 years or older. It is run across a distance of 1 mile at Ascot Racecourse. The race is scheduled to take place as the third race on day two of Royal Ascot.

Originally named the Windsor Forest Stakes, this race was initially introduced, along with several other races, back in 2004 for older fillies. The aim was to encourage owners and trainers to enter these older horses and not prematurely retire them to stud.

It was officially renamed to the Duke of Cambridge Stakes in 2013 as a tribute to Prince William. The most successful jockey in the history of the race is William Buick who has three victories to his name including Joviality in 2012 and Saffron Beach in 2022.

The top trainer in this race is an accolade shared between Sir Michael Stoute and John Gosden. The pair share the title with 4 wins each in this race.
