Queen Mary Stakes Overview
The Queen Mary Stakes is a Group 2 flat race for two-year-old fillies staged as the first race of the second day of Royal Ascot, run over a distance of 5 furlongs at Ascot Racecourse.
The race takes its name from Queen Mary, the consort of King George V who ruled from 1865 to 1936. The race was started in 1921, its first running being won by Wild Mint.
Most surprisingly, it took until 2004 before the race was upgraded from its Group 3 ranking to its current Group 2 status. The leading jockey – with five winners (Supervisor – 1932, Maureen – 1933, Caretta – 1934, Snowberry – 1939, and Apparition – 1946) – is Sir Gordon Richards.

Queen Mary Stakes History
Ward has had four of the fourteen winners since he started to target Royal Ascot back in 2009 as well as three beaten favourites (two of his last three winners went off favourite).
Nine of the last fourteen winners came from the top three in the betting with three of the longer priced winners coming from a Northern based yard.
The most relevant key trend is that a top three finish on her previous run is essential with 10 out of the last 10 fitting that trend (8 actually won).
