The Wokingham Stakes is a 6-furlong handicap open to three-year-olds and older and is run on the final day of Royal Ascot. Established in 1813, the race attracts a large field with a fair mix of seasoned handicappers and less exposed, lightly raced types. The winner will go on and contest the better sprint handicaps throughout the season.

Wokingham Stakes (Heritage Handicap)
Saint Lawrence started at odds of 22/1 when winning this contest last year and is a prime example of how this race can be a minefield for punters, but, given Apollo One (runner-up) and Juan Les Pins (third) have also gone up in the weights, he still offers some value in trying to emulate Rohaan, who landed back-to-back wins in the two previous editions. Albasheer drops in class but was notably well held in this 12 months ago and again carries risk. Therefore, perhaps Mums Tipple, off 4lb lower after finishing fourth to Archie Watson's gelding, could reverse that form. However, DARK TROOPER, a dual C&D winner when trained by Ed Walker, may be the way to go for win only purposes, given he is a proven course specialist who is still on an upwards trajectory.

Wokingham Stakes Overview
First run in 1813, the Wokingham Stakes has become one of the more historic races in the Royal Ascot schedule. The race is named after the market town of Wokingham which is located several miles west of Ascot itself.
Pointers prevailed victorious in the first-ever edition of the race which was owned by the Duke of York. A horse by the name of Wokingham even won the race on two separate occasions in 1881 and 1882. The race used to be run as three separate races. It became a single race in 1874 and has been run that way ever since. The only exception was in 2020 when a Silver Wokingham Handicap was run due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Seven jockeys, including Lester Piggott and Willie Carson, share the record for the most wins by a jockey in the race with 3 victories each. Four trainers (Joe Cannon, Richard Marsh, Charles Morton, and Paul Cole) have all experienced the most number of wins for a trainer in this race with 3 wins each.
