Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle Overview
The Juvenile Handicap Hurdle is registered as the Fred Winter Juvenile Novices’ Handicap Hurdle although is currently known by its sponsor’s name of the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle and is run over the minimum trip of 2 miles and 87 yards on the old course.
There are eight hurdles to jump during its running which takes place on day one of the fixture. The first-place prize money is likely to be in the region of £45,000.

The race is only in its nineteenth year with Gordon Elliott the leading trainer with four winners.
Ireland has a very good record in the contest having won ten of the eighteen runnings including the last six renewals.
The race is one of two designed for four-year-old juvenile hurdlers alongside the Triumph Hurdle, that takes place on the Friday of the Cheltenham Festival. The winner is likely to be seen at the Spring Festivals at Aintree and Punchestown.
Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle History
The race is one of the newest at the meeting having only been added in 2005 when a fourth day was introduced.
This event is named in memory of Fred Winter, who was one of the greatest National Hunt trainers of last century as well as being a successful jockey. He rode seventeen winners as a jockey and trained twenty-eight as a trainer at the Festival.

Jazzy Matty, trained in Ireland by Gordon Elliott at 18/1 won last year’s renewal and was ridden by Michael O’Sullivan.
The prize money for the 2023 winner was £45,000.
It is run on day one of the Cheltenham Festival, normally as the sixth race on the card. The 2024 renewal will take place on Tuesday, March 12th.
As with all 2-mile races at the Cheltenham Festival, there are eight hurdles to jump.
