Turners Novices’ Chase Overview
The Turners Novices’ Chase is a Grade 1 chase registered as the Golden Miller Novices’ Chase and is open to horses aged five years or older. The distance of the race is 2 miles 4 furlongs and 168 yards of the new course.
There are seventeen fences to be jumped and it is the first race of seven on day three of the Cheltenham Festival. It is the leading two-mile chase in the National Hunt calendar with the winner laying claim to being the fastest two-mile chaser around.

Willie Mullins has won four of the thirteen runnings whilst Ireland has triumphed in nine of the 13.
Ruby Walsh is the leading jockey, having ridden three winners (all for Willie Mullins).
Turners Novices’ Chase History
One of the newest races at the Festival, The Turners Chase was established in 2011 to give novice chasers the option of an intermediate distance to go alongside the Arkle (2 miles) and the Brown Advisory (3 miles 1 furlong).
Jewson sponsored the initial running of the race and it has been sponsored each year since by the likes of JLT, Marsh and currently Turners, a transport company who have sponsored the race since 2022.
Turners Novices' Chase FAQ
Stage Star, trained by Paul Nicholls and ridden by Harry Cobden, won the 2023 renewal at odds of 15/2.
The prize money for the 2023 renewal stood at £98,000.
It is run as the opening race for day three of the Cheltenham Festival. The 2024 renewal will take place on Thursday, 14th March.
There are seventeen fences in total to be jumped during the race.
A big field is unlikely with the last three renewals hosting 7, 4 and 8 runners.
The race is open to horses aged five years and older.
