Fontwell Park is a National Hunt-only racecourse situated in the village of Fontwell in West Sussex.
The chase course is a left-handed and sharp course in a figure-of-eight circuit, whilst the hurdles track is oval. The fences are easy but, given the nature of the track, course specialists abound.
On the chase course, the lead rarely changes hands on the run-in but often looks as though it might. The paddock exit is situated halfway up the run-in on the hurdles course and can lead to horses idling/ducking out on seeing it.
The National Spirit Hurdle is a Grade 2 hurdle race run in late February or early March over a distance of 2 miles 3 furlongs and 33 yards.
The race can be used as a trial for the Stayers Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival which takes place roughly six weeks later. The winner is likely to win around £46,000.
The Southern National is a class 3 handicap chase run over 3 miles and 3 furlongs and 149 yards in November. The winner is likely to win around £12,000.
The leading trainer at Fontwell Park over the past five seasons is Gary Moore with over two times as many winners as his nearest pursuer Anthony Honeyball.
Tom Lacey is a trainer who does well with his rare runners here. The leading jockey over the past five years is not surprisingly Jamie Moore with his association with his father Gary ahead of Tom Cannon.
