Newbury Betting Trends & Statistics

Newbury is one of the fairest courses in the country with its galloping nature makes it flat track ideal for the big, long striding type.

Local handler Richard Hannon has the best record here on the flat course over the last five years although he does have plenty of runners here. William Haggas is another trainer who likes running his horses here. Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby has a very good strike rate of around 28% and his horses are always respected.

All the top flat jockeys excel at this top track with the likes of James Doyle, Tom Marquand and Oisin Murphy all riding plenty of winners at the track.

On the jumps course the trainer to follow is locally based Nicky Henderson who often unleashes some of his nicer types at the track. Paul Nicholls is another trainer who does well here whilst Venetia Williams’ runners are worthy of a second look with a decent wins to runs ratio of around 25%.

Not surprisingly as stable jockeys for Messr’s Henderson and Nicholls, Nico de Boinville and Harry Cobden ride the most winners here with Charlie Deutsch worth a mention with a wins to runs ratio of around 39%.

On the flat track high numbers are best in large fields, especially on very soft or heavy ground conditions.

Newbury Races History

The only Group 1 event held at Newbury is The Lockinge Stakes over a mile in May where Sir Michael Stoute has won a staggering eight renewals over the years in Scottish Reel (1986), Safawan (1990), Soviet Line (1995 & 1996), Medicean (2001), Russian Rhythm(2004), Peeress (2006) and Mustashry (2019). Sir Michael trains out of Freemason stables in Newmarket and has a great association with the Berkshire racecourse as his stats show.
