Eider Chase Overview
The Eider Chase is a race that is run usually each February. It attracts a high-class field of staying chasers over a stamina-sapping four miles and one-and-a-half-furlong trip. Given the extreme distance, it often serves as a trial for the Grand National around eight weeks down the line. However, in recent years only one horse (Comply Or Die, 2008) has been good enough to win this and then score again at Aintree.
The race is run at Newcastle and there are twenty-four fences to be jumped. The race carries a valuable first prize of over £40,000. The most recent renewal saw an easy win for Ryan Potter’s Knockanore who ran away with the race scoring by 16L at odds of 16/1.
